This Vintage Japanese Traditional Kokeshi from the SAKUNAMI family has classical peony design. Fine quality and signed by the artist who has been awarded the Prime Ministers Prize, SUZUKI SHOJI. The body profile has an elegant squeezed profile (sashikomi) and the classical SAKUNAMI face has a split nose (ware-bana). SAKUNAMI is commonly believed to be the oldest of all the Kokeshi strains. Originating in the MEIJI period. (1868-1912). This Kokeshi has some water damage to the paint and some fading.
