Description

A contemporary Chinese Peking glass bowl in a deep translucent green.

Peking glass was developed during the Qing dynasty (18th century) China. The technique was adapted by Chinese artisans from European glass blowing techniques taken to China by the Jesuit missionaries. It is a style of glass blowing called overlay glass where the original shape is dipped in numerous liquid glass baths, creating a layering that can be seen around the rim of the piece. It was primarily used by the Imperial family for snuff bottles and vases, although it's popularity spread beyond the Imperial Court. It is still only made in Beijing.

Dimensions:

17cm diameter

8cm high
