A large Japanese kitchen cabinet, mizuya, from Mino near Gifu. It is made in two halves from cypress and cedar wood. Four sliding panel doors reveal open storage space in the upper portion, the lower half containing more storage behind two additional sliding doors with decorative trim. A total of fourteen drawers of different sizes, with elegantly proportioned iron hardware complete the cabinet. Meiji period, early 20th century.
