Description
An antique Japanese high quality, five tiered jubako. Each surface is exquisitely rendered with a delicate design of a plum tree in full bloom with curving trunk and branches, bamboo, chrysanthemum and grasses on a black lacquer background with a subtle nashiji sprinkling of silver that catches the light. The attention to detail is impeccable, with even the underside of the lid embellished with a branch of berries. The interior is red lacquer with the edges rimmed with gold, all in beautiful condition for its age, which attests to the quality of craftsmanship. It dates from the Meiji period, circa 1900.
