On this recent buying trip to Japan we were lucky enough to find some time to visit the Miho Museum where there was a stunning exhibition of komainu or shi shi, temple guardian dogs, dating back to the Heian period (794-1185). The Miho Museum is built into the mountains in Shiga Prefecture and was designed by famous architect I.M. Pei who is also responsible for the glass pyramid at The Louvre in Paris. Below are just a couple of snaps from the entrance tunnel.
