Description

A Japanese black lacquer box from the Meiji period (19th Century) featuring a finely worked scene from the popular Tales of the Genji in gold and silver maki-e. The box has incised gilded copper hardware and a brown silk cord tie with tassel ends in very good conditon for its age.
