Learn the art of Japanese Boro stitching!
Led by Zara Parker, participants will make a sample, “taster” of Boro stitching using their choice of patching techniques, which can then be made into a phone case, small purse or coaster.
Japanese Boro textiles are those that have been mended and patched using various sewing techniques. They were folk textiles, mended out of necessity rather than for beauty. Our Indigo section has some examples and this book is a great resource that can be purchased from Kazari + Ziguzagu.
Zara will talk further about the history of Boro and take you through the process step by step. The workshop will run for 2 1/2 hrs after which you should have a hand stitched piece to take home. Boro stitching is suitable for beginners through to competent needle workers.
