This Wakaga-style lacquer jūbako is a beautifully crafted Japanese tiered food container from the 20th century. Jūbako (重箱) are stackable lacquered boxes traditionally used for serving and storing special meals, including New Year's dishes (osechi ryōri) and elaborate picnics (hanami bento).
