Original Shōwa era, (1926-1989) Japanese Woodblock Print – Lake Shore of Matsue in Rain (Matsue kohan no ame). First printing1932.
The full summer rain scene over the Lake at Matsue. A fishermen brings this small craft to shore on this rainy windy day. Beautifully evocative print and lovely Hasui scene.
Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) is one of the leading masters of the shin hanga movement. His woodblock prints capture landscapes of Japan with an atmosphere that blends traditional techniques with modern sensibilities.
Signed - Kawase Hasui with red artist's seal "kawase" on the left.
Sealed - Publisher Watanabe, 7mm seal on the right.
