A Japanese Fune Dansu, traditionally used by sea captains to store documents, valuables, and a writing box, dating to the early 19th century Edo period. Crafted from zelkova wood for durability and beauty, with paulownia wood drawer linings for protection, this chest exemplifies both functionality and refined craftsmanship.
The zelkova grain provides natural elegance, while the paulownia interior ensures delicate items are safely stored. Iron hardware, including locks and handles, combines security with decorative appeal, highlighting traditional metalworking skills.
