Description

Creative Kokeshi by prize winner Usaburo Okamoto (1917-2009) one of the kokeshi artists who introduced new machine processes into the Kokeshi making processes including adopting a method of carving and burning using Nichrome wire in the decorating process and experimenting with a variety of timbers. This Kokeshi is one of the Usaburo classic styles, with bobbed hair and plump body and cheeky gaze and subtle smile. The kimono has a ruby stain and is ornamented with camelia and delicate details burnt into the garment here and there. Some minor scuff marks which are visible in the photos but in good condition in general.
