$160.00 Sale price

Regular price $160.00

Description

A Japanese Bizenware vase with fabulous ash glazed surface marks. The vase is red brown in colour due to the high iron content in the local clay.

Bizenware is gradually heated to extremely high temperatures, up to 1200 C over the course of 10-14 days. The pottery is stacked in climbing kilns where the smoke and flames are allowed to move between and through, causing unpredicable and unique outcomes in each piece, even in the same firing. Bizenware is one of the oldest pottery styles of Japan and one of the six ancient kilns. It has experienced a revival in popularity since the 1930's.

It is said that food, beer, and sake tastes better using bizenware and flowers last longer in a bizenware vase, due to this this style of pottery blocking 90% of far infared rays, preserving food and keeping nearby natural materials fresh.

This vase is signed on the base and comes with a paulownia storage box, also signed.
