Arare example with hidden wheels and rings for ropes; contemporary in design, this chest is a late C18th quality merchants shop storage chest for accounts and receipts, made to Japanese taste from Fukui area.

Cho dansu 

An exceptional piece of fine proportions and configuration of drawers with good copper metalwork with a lift out panel on the left side for storage of books and a concealed cash drawer on the right side. Made from paulownia wood, this was made for the Kyoto area

Multi-purpose storage cabinet, custom made from fine quality zelkova (keyaki) wood: matched TAMAMOKU grain panels in the upper sliding doors. Fine urushi lacquer finish which just gets better with age. Bought 20 years ago and in a private collection until now. Unprocurable from the present Japanese market.
